Heather: Blog #1

I had the opportunity to volunteer at the St Jude Gourmet Gala, which was held at the National Building Museum. This annual event is one of Washington, DC’s largest charity events and is a gathering of supporters of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The event had over 600 attendees who raised over $540,000 for the children seeking treatment at St. Jude’s. The National Building Museum offered a unique event space, which was split into three different sections during the gala. In one section was the silent auction which had items available ranging from sports memorabilia to jewelry to wine tastings, vacations opportunities, and more. The second section was set up as the dining room area and was filled with round dinner tables. The third section of the space was what made the gala the “Gourmet Gala.” This part of the event had cooking stations set up where chefs from over thirty local restaurants could cook parts of the meal in front of the gala guests, allowing the guests to experience tastings from multiple different cuisines. Being able to volunteer at such an event was a lot of fun and I hope to be able to be a part of the team at more galas in the future.
