Last night I attended the 5th annual Georgie's Awards Ceremony. The Georgie's are hosted in Lisner auditorium every year at the end of April to honor outstanding athletes. I walked to the auditorium from my dorm and arrived about forty-five minutes early to meet my team and take pictures. There were food and beverages laid out inside to snack on before the ceremony began at 8:30pm. The auditorium was very large, seated about 1,000, plenty of room to host all GW athletes and athletic department staff. The ceremony had 3 student-athlete hosts and an MC to run the ceremony as more of a show.
The dress code for the event was semi-formal. The presentation of of the event as a whole was very professional, fancy, and run very smoothly. It consisted of about an hour and half of announcing awards, guest performances, and storyline from the hosts. There were volunteers backstage handing out and organizing trophies and people in headsets getting all student-athletes in line for their turn to go on stage.
Once it was over everyone exited the auditorium, socialized outside for a bit, then proceeded to their after event of choice. Overall, I had a great time at this event, I thought it was planned very thoroughly and carried out in great fashion. This is my third year attending this event and every year it is amazing. All the athletes love attending. My favorite part of the event is the storyline aspect the hosts provide which is always very humorous and entertaining.
