On Wednesday I had the pleasure of attending PCMA's 7 actionable Conference Design Insights from TED Events . This was a virtual event that was given by Andrea Driessen who is a self proclaimed "chief boredom buster". I never have attended a webinar before so it was a great first experience to see a new way to attend an event. I signed on to the webinar and join into the chat of about 200 other people eager to learn and hear Andrea Driessen speak. The webinar started off by the people all stating their names and where they were from. There were people from all over the united states in the chat so it was a great way to virtually meet people and talk about common interest. She started the conversation by asking people about what their favorite ted talk was and why . People were able to write in the chat box about their favorite TED experiences. It was great to see people so excited about their past experiences and shaw why they though that they were successful events. Driessen then got into the content of the webinar . She really wanted us to grasp how to be more creative when planning en event and gave some best practice tips based on the TED events and how they have been successful. One of the most important lessons that she shared was about Risk and Re-invention. Taking risks when planning an event is important because it allows the event to elevate and improve. Taking a risk can result in high rewards such as increased attendees and many other aspects that show that event has something new to attract people. Driessen shared a quote with us by Sir Ken Robinson "If you're not prepared to be wrong, you'll never come up with anything original."This quotes resonates greatly with event planning because it teaches event planners that keeping up with event trends and finding innovative outlets are essential to successful events in 2016 and other years to come . The other design insights that she shared with us are curation over committee, engaging through exclusivity, why less is more , crucial value in speaker selection strategy and connection between choice and value. Overall it was a great first webinar experience to have and looking forward to attending more in the future.
