Alec Post #2 Event Work

I was lucky enough to volunteer for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and it was a truly amazing experience. I attended the event with the George Washington Men's Water Polo team and being a senior I was put in charge of managing what tasks the team would be doing. I supervised the safety of our team and appointed helped complete the tasks that were required for our part of the set up for the event. We were given the task of setting up booths for the event and an example of what a near completed booth looks like can be found at the bottom of this post. With each of these booths there were little goody bags that were to be handed out. We prepared and packaged roughly three hundred goody bags for varying booths for the event. As a final task we provided a very minimal security in the sense that we prevented random people who were passing by from taking any of the food or materials that were set out for the event. In doing all of these tasks and seeing how much more needed to be completed when we were done I gained an appreciation for what it takes form an event manager to host such a large event. The event ended up being very successful and we were all very happy to have fulfilled our team community service requirement.
