I had the opportunity to attend a new type of event this
semester which was a viewing party hosted by the Washington Capitals’ of the
team’s away playoff game against the Philadelphia Flyers. It was hosted at
their home arena, the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. while the actual game
took place in Philadelphia. The arena had three lower level ‘100’ sections open
which was a great experience for me having never sat that low in the stands
before and the game was played on the arena’s main screen. Some of the
concession stands were open to purchase food and drink as well as the team
store which was offering discounted merchandise. There were a lot of incentives
to attend the viewing party including giveaways such as a foam puck upon entry,
raffle drawings during intermissions for player signed merchandise,
performances by the Capitals Red Rockers, and it was emceed by 106.7 The Fan’s
Grant and Danny. It was a great way to watch the game and cheer on my favorite team
with other avid fans and the best part about the experience was that it was
entirely free. I would definitely recommend attending a similar event if your
favorite sports team is hosting one and I will be going to every one of these I
can in the future.
